I’m not sure if the Thor fandom has actually exploded back into life or if it’s just that I’ve recently come out of a long hiatus and I’m now just staring wide-eyed and shell-shocked at everything going on around me, but the interwebs is all a-flurry this week with fresh new Thor Ragnarok news. Yeah, I guess we can thank SDCC and the start of principal photography for that.
The Hulk’s gladiator outfit was displayed at SDCC, along with loads of other stuff that I’m far too tired to get into right now (just read about it here and elsewhere) but there are two things I’m keen to touch upon.
First up, Thor Ragnarok has a new logo:
Wait. That’s not it.
Wait. That’s still not it.
Wait, is that…? No, no that’s not it either. Hang on a sec.
No, no that’s not it either. Hang on a sec.
Still not it. Though I feel like we’re getting closer?
God damnit, where did it go?! Oh hang on, that is it. Ha! I knew it was here somewhere amid my folder of 80’s video/game/cartoon logos!
As you can well imagine, the new Thor logo has caused a wee stir, and consequently led to l memes, more memes, and such questions as: Is Thor Ragnarok going to tie in with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2? Will Thor’s hammer be replaced by a ghetto-blaster? Will Scorpion’s Rock You Like A Hurricane be on the soundtrack? Is Taika Waititi just trolling us? Will Q*bert or Pac-Man have a cameo?
Okay so that last question was my own, but one thing the fandom seems almost unanimous about is that there is something deeply out of place with this logo. Clearly, the 80’s style is out of place with the Thor movies that have gone before it, but there’s something else…
Oh, hang on.
There we go!
It all makes sense now1)Nothing. Nothing in this world makes sense. Clearly this relates2)I’m crediting Tumblr users Helshades and Deviousbrat for making this connection, because I was really banking on a Pixels movie crossover to The Grandmaster (played by Jeff Goldblum) who is going to make his debut into the MCU as one of Thor 3’s antagonists – likely as the dude who will be overseeing the gladiator event in which we will see Thor and Hulk pitched against each other (another detail released at SDCC.. I think?3)Actually, it’s late, I’m tired, I’m losing track of my life let alone the rumour/speculation/potential facts surrounding Thor Ragnarok, and I have serious concerns about the wording of that last sentence.)
When asked on Twitter how this logo came about, Taika Waititi replied:
We thought: “What would drive people who love fonts made out of stainless steel absolutely insane with frustration?” https://t.co/pQhawdeAaB

I’m beginning to love this guy. Seriously, the Thor movie fandom hasn’t had anything so interesting to talk about since Loki’s Slippers. This man truly is a breath of fresh air.
Anyway, the final thing before I head off to bed4)you know you’re tired when you catch yourself writing paragraphs with your eyes closed – hehe someone really should take this internet away from me.… Yet another tidbit of info gleaned from SDCC…
Loki has been given a new look/costume for Thor Ragnarok!
Though visuals of this – along with any actual description – have yet to make their way online, I’m going to hazard a vague, ridiculous and – given that damned 80’s logo – potentially-quite-plausible guess.
*Okay but first I’ll give a good run up for the benefit of those who don’t want to to be spoiled…
** POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT!
*** LAST WARNING!
End Note: Okay but seriously folks, we don’t know what Loki’s new wardrobe is going to be for Ragnarok but stay tuned – maybe sign up for email notifications! Cause you can bet that as soon as we find out, it’ll be posted here!
