Thor: Ragnarok has a new release date

Want the good news or the bad news?

The bad news is that Marvel has moved the Thor 3 release date from 28 July 2017 to 3 November 2017, shifting it back three months so as not to conflict with Sony’s release of their next Spiderman movie.

Loki facepalm’s as the shrill cry of 4.5 million fangirls reverberates the halls of Asgard.

Now for the good news…

Yeah, there’s no good news.

Unless you count (on a completely unrelated note) the recent news that will be making a second appearance on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.?. But since I seem to have been living in the boondocks of the universe lately, I think it’s probably safe to say I’m the last person to have found that one out.

But hey, in case you didn’t know… She’ll be appearing in the mid-season’s second episode. This time suffering from short-term amnesia. Further details here.

Let’s hope that when her memory comes back, she’ll drop us some hints about what’s going on with King Loki!Odin up in Asgard?

In a nutshell: 30-something. Mother of 3. New Zealander. Prone to escapism. Procrastinates over most things yet energised and enthusiastic when hit with alarmingly stupid and random ideas. Hasn't slept since the early-90's.

I am honestly baffled at what Marvel are playing at with this – love or hate Thor 2 it was a commercial success so why the delay in the sequel?

Let’s hope that this means they’re working on a really good script, something along the lines of the Captain America 2 movie, and not because they haven’t the foggiest idea what to do with the film!

    • It was Marvel’s deal with Sony to incorperate Spiderman into the Marvel Cinematic Universe that caused Thor 3’s release date to be pushed back. Three other Marvel movies (Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Inhumans) have also had their release dates changed. For Thor 3 especially, the date HAD to change from being 28 July as the next Spiderman’s release is also slated for July.

Marvel probably didn’t care about competing with release dates when they were rivalling Sony, but now that they have this deal going on over Spiderman, they have to let Spidey have his time to shine before Thor 3’s release.

As far as Thor 3’s script is concerned… Still no word on that, but it was said (by Feige or someone? I can’t remember now) that the events of Thor: Ragnarok are going to affect the MCU on a big scale, in the same kind of way that Cap 2 shook up the whole universe.
